Council rubberstamps Nature Restoration Law

SolarPower Europe Statement

17 June 2024

Today, EU Environment Ministers adopted conclusions on the EU Nature Restoration Law.

SolarPower Europe has issued the following statement in reaction.

Lina Dubina, Policy Advisor for Sustainability at SolarPower Europe said:

“Today is a good day for a nature-positive energy transition. Environment Ministers have formally adopted the first European-wide law with legally binding targets to restore at least 20% of the EU's land and sea areas by 2030 and repair all ecosystems in need of restoration by 2050.

In the context of accelerating climate change and biodiversity loss, we believe in the urgency of nature restoration. Therefore, we welcome the adoption of the long-awaited Nature Restoration Law. Solar and nature work together, going beyond climate change mitigation to also protect biodiversity and restore vital ecosystems. The Nature Restoration Law can provide the right framework for stimulating a regenerative economy and promoting solar technologies compatible with nature.”
