Press Release

10 April 2025

DHAKA, Bangladesh (10 April 2025): At the renewable energy session of the Bangladesh Investment Summit in Dhaka on 9 April, SolarPower Europe and the Bangladesh Solar and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate exchange of knowledge and technical expertise in support of the Bangladeshi renewable energy roll out.

The MoU launches a new co-operation between the two Associations, and will include activities such as market intelligence exchange, promotion of industry best practices, exploration of capacity building on advocacy and sector development, and joint messaging to decision makers, when applicable.

Máté Heisz, Chief Operating Officer of SolarPower Europe, said, “We’re pleased to be formalising our partnership with our friends at BSREA. As one of the most promising solar markets in South Asia, Bangladesh presents strong opportunities for cooperation with the EU in areas such as technology transfer, investment, and policy support. Europe, for our part, is ready to play a key role in supporting Bangladesh’s solar expansion by facilitating financing, strengthening regulatory frameworks, and fostering partnerships between European and Bangladeshi companies.”

BSREA Chairman Mostafa Al Mahmud, said, "BSREA is fully aligned with these aspirations, and we are determined to contribute meaningfully. We are opening a new chapter of cooperation, innovation, and shared vision for a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Bangladesh. We are proud to welcome SolarPower Europe as our strategic partner. Their global experience and technological excellence will be a tremendous asset as we work together to build a resilient and sustainable energy ecosystem in Bangladesh."

The MoU was signed at the Bangladesh Investment Summit, during the B2B part of the high level session on renewable energy, organised by the European Union, in cooperation with Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), UNDP and in partnership with EuroCham Bangladesh, under the theme 'Unlocking the potential of Bangladesh for investors in renewable energy,’ reflecting the strong EUR 1.3 billion footprint the Team Europe initiative has in this area, including through the Global Gateway flagship “Bangladesh Renewable Energy Facility”.

Prospective investors had an opportunity to meet European companies already active in the country, including multinationals as well as SMEs, across various sectors and learn about the opportunities and challenges of conducting business in Bangladesh in a very practical and ‘hands-on’ manner.
