Africa Renewables Investment Summit (ARIS) seeks to enable renewable energy investment in African countries by linking institutional investors, project developers, policy makers, energy utilities, regulators, corporates and the most influential energy sector decision makers under one roof.
Africa’s renewable energy potential is huge, presenting opportunities to vastly improve energy access and end energy poverty on the African continent. An estimated $70 billion in yearly renewable energy investments is required for Africa to meet its electrification targets by 2030, according to a report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Yet despite this, Africa only received 2% of the US$2 trillion that was invested in renewable energy globally between 2000 and 2020.
ARIS is therefore a key event for Africa’s energy transition and economic development, by facilitating crucial funding in clean, sustainable and reliable energy.
Africa has incredible solar potential with close to 60% of the best solar energy resources globally, yet solar capacity across Africa is currently less than half that of the UK. Solar energy is already the cheapest form of electricity in many parts of Africa and ARIS will provide investors with the chance to explore opportunities for investment in Africa’s solar energy sector.
ARIS will host renowned speakers on key topics including green hydrogen, just transition and scaling solar and wind investments. A bespoke matchmaking service will link project developers to investors, with several important investment pledges and memoranda of understanding already in the pipeline.
