SolarPower Europe visits Fronius

By: James Watson, CEO

At the end of March, SolarPower Europe CEO, James Watson, and Executive Advisor Michael Schmela visited member company Fronius' headquarters in Wels, Austria. Fronius have been instrumental in developing European technology across the solar, storage, heating, smart home and EV space. The meeting provided the SolarPower Europe team with a good overview of the strong progress that Fronius are making in increased sales globally and also in the R&D department with new products, such as the smart EV charger, coming off the production line.

The meeting also provided a good opportunity for SolarPower Europe and Fronius to discuss the forthcoming Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Fronius, as a key Austrian solar company, are well placed to support the work of SolarPower Europe during the six months of the Austrian Presidency. This will be a critical Presidency for the Clean Energy Package as the Austrians are expected to conclude the discussions on the Renewable Energy Directive and lead and conclude the negotiations on the Electricity Market Design package. These are key regulations for our sector and the common work of our Austrian members, like Fronius, and SolarPower Europe will be key to achieving a positive outcome for solar in Europe.

Subsequently to the visit, SolarPower Europe was pleased to learn of the Austrian governments 100,000 roofs of solar initiative, clearly a major initiative to drive self-consumption and one that will increase demand for solar in Austria - a vision shared by SolarPower Europe and Fronius.
