Call for proposals: support Sun For Schools initiative

By: Bruce Douglas, Deputy CEO and COO

SolarPower Europe is supporting the Sun for Schools initiative, which has already installed 2750 panels on 10 schools in Belgium using an innovative business model. The solar projects do not only bring benefits in terms of CO2 savings, they also raise awareness with students, teachers and parents about climate change and renewable energy, while providing significant financial savings to the school - their latest project will save 180,000 euros for the school over its lifetime. The aim is to power many more schools in Belgium with solar over the coming months and launch a pilot projects in other EU countries.

There is now an opportunity for members of SolarPower Europe to support this initiative.  This could be in the form of discounted or free equipment (panels, inverters, monitoring software), contacts or advice. In return you would receive significant brand recognition and access to future projects as the Sun For Schools initiative grows.

Here is a sample of Sun For Schools' upcoming projects:

Short term: 900 kWp on schools in Belgium

  • In the next 3 months, 400 kWp (signed)
  • In the next 8 month, another 500 kWp (100 kWp signed)

Medium term

  • By the end of the year they are planning to launch at least one pilot project in another European country or emerging market outside Europe - any contacts or information on opportunities that members could provide would be very valuable.

If you would like to propose support or need more information please contact Bruce Douglas.
