SolarPower Europe joins EU trade mission in Egypt
By: James Watson, CEO
On 23rd April, SolarPower Europe CEO, James Watson joined a high-level European Commission sponsored delegation to Egypt to promote the uptake of solar power. Alongside Commissioner for Energy Miguel Arias Canete, Director General Dominique Ristori and the Ministers of Electricity and Renewable Electricity and Minerals and Resources of Egypt, James spoke on a high-level panel outlining the unique opportunity that solar and Egypt have.
The Egyptian government confirmed that solar is the backbone of their new plans to deliver electricity to a country of nearly 100 million people. 55GW are planned to be built in the coming years - mainly large scale, but also small scale and rooftop will be crucial to the plans envisaged by the government.
Tenders are planned in the coming months and years and all SolarPower Europe members who are interested are invited to join us in the Emerging Markets Taskforce where opportunities like this will be discussed and actions agreed.
