SolarPower Europe joins the Electrification Alliance

By Christophe Arnaud, Policy Advisor

On 23 June, SolarPower Europe, together with AVERE (electric mobility association) the European Copper Institute, Eurelectric, Wind Europe, and the European Heat Pump Association, launched the Electrification Alliance, calling for electricity to be recognised as the key energy carrier for an efficient and decarbonised European future.

Many energy stakeholders gathered in the Grand Central Cafe for this breakfast event launching the new alliance calling for maximising the potential of decarbonised electricity and enabling efficient technologies to advance Europe's competitiveness, economic growth, job creation, and the promotion of a sustainable, healthy society for European citizens.

The Alliance partners and the a wide range of supporting associations and companies co-signed and published a Declaration calling for reforms under the current legislative review of European climate, energy and transport legislation, to accelerate the advancement of electrification in years to come.

Debates were shed light on the upcoming challenges identified by the partners, and the areas of cooperation to develop, such as electro mobility or the primary energy factor.

SolarPower Europe's CEO James Watson closed the event by stressing the solar power sector's confidence in the upcoming Clean Energy Package to develop electrification around the three following principles: "more decarbonisation, more decentralisation, and more digitalisation".
